1. Dogo Argentino

This breed of dog is from the southern part of South America and was bred to hunt but it has however gained a reputation as a fighting dog. The Dogo was bred to hunt in a pack and so they were not allowed to fight one another. Therefore, it is not a fighting dog and its reputation as a fighting dog is undeserved.

The Dogo is large, weighing 45 kilos and it is muscular and solid white with few markings. Around 10% of these dogs are deaf, while some suffer from hip dysplasia, a big dog disease.

2. Fila Brasileiro

The dog is slender and clean and its skin requires extra care. Some Peruvian hairless require sunscreen in hot areas and coats in cold areas.

4. Brazilian Terrier

The Brazilian Terrier is small and is referred to as Fox Paulistinha in Brazil. The dog is 15 inches at the shoulders and it is very active. When out in upcountry, they ran after all wild animals, small or large. They also ran after and kill chickens, rabbits, cats, hamsters, ducks, geese and any other animal. They need to be walked a lot of times in a day to keep them from being destructive, in the case they are kept indoors.

5. Chihuahua

This dog is the smallest in Latin America and was bred in the northernmost parts. The Chihuahua is less than 3 kilos and can be born in any color.

The Chihuahua can suffer from hydrocephalus, Luxating patella, heart murmurs, epilepsy, and tracheas.

Its eyes have to be maintained cleaned to prevent infection. Its puppies require feeding after 2hours to avoid low blood sugar and its teeth should be brushed every day to avoid dental infections.
